Who a plant belongs to

What this covers

The Access tab answers two questions at once. Who does this system belong to? is the registered owner, and there is only ever one. What is each person allowed to do here? is their access level, and several people can hold the same one. A solar company can configure forty plants without owning any; a homeowner can own theirs and only look at readings.

Telling the two apart on screen

The line at the top of the tab reads Owner: and a name, or No owner set, with the note that it is a record of who the plant belongs to, which grants nothing on its own. In the list below, the registered owner carries a solid gold Owner badge against their name, while the access level is the dropdown on the right of the row.

An ownerless plant is normal

No owner set is an ordinary state. Until recently myPower24 recorded only what people were allowed to do, never whose system it was, so existing plants were left blank rather than have an owner guessed for them. On such a plant Full control means "this person has always been able to change things here". It never meant they own it.

The ownership history

Once a plant has had an owner, the History view keeps every state it has been in. Support accounts see it; other holders do not.

Owner - the person or organisation. How - SUPPORT, SCAN or HANDOVER. Set - who recorded it, and when. Cleared - when it stopped being true, or current. Reason - required when support sets or clears an owner, and empty on a scan or a hand-over.

Lines are retired, never removed.

Tips

• Read the owner line to know who to ask about a plant; read the levels to know who can change it.
• An organisation can be the registered owner, which is normal on commercial sites.
• Recording an owner also gives that subject Full control, and takes nothing away from anyone else.
