Set up a Smart Alert

Scope

A Smart Alert is a logger rule that sends a notification when a condition on live values stays true. For each field and state, see Smart Alert field definitions.

Location

• Path: My Devices, the logger, then the Smart Alerts tab.
• Alert list: each logger has its own list.

Permissions

• See the alert list: all access levels.
• Make, edit, test and delete alerts and Computed variables: Editor, Installer or Full control.

Step 1: Template Alert

1. In the right pane, click a template, for example Battery low.
2. In the sentence, change the threshold and the duration.
3. Click Create alert.

• Grey card: the plant does not report the value that the template needs.

Step 2: Custom Alert

1. Click Build your own.
2. Type a name in the Alert name field.
3. In the IF row, select the value and the comparison.
4. Type the threshold in the value box.
5. Under When, type the seconds in Must hold for (s).
6. Click Save alert.

• Variable: select it in place of Fixed value to compare with a second live value.
• Add condition: adds a row. AND or OR connects the new row to the row above it.
• Message: if you do not type a message, the system writes a message.

Step 3: Alert Test

1. In Your alerts, click the alert.
2. Click Test now.

The result shows Condition is TRUE or Condition is FALSE. Test now ignores Must hold for (s) and sends no notification. It tests only the saved version of the alert.

Troubleshooting

• The alert shows Needs attention: it cannot read one of its values. The row gives the reason.
• Fixed value 'x' is not a number. Type a number as the threshold.
• A condition term has no right operand. Type a threshold in the empty box.
• This logger cannot fill in {A2}. It needs software 9.335 or newer. Remove them or use {A} and {B}. Update the logger software.
• Smart Alerts needs newer logger software: update the logger software, then click Refresh.
• Rule limit reached (32). Delete an alert first.

Tips and Gotchas

• If you delete a condition row, the placeholders after it read a different row.
• For a value that the logger does not report, make a Computed variable on the System Variables tab.
• If you save an alert while it is Active, it starts again from Watching.
• myPower24 sends no notification when an alert clears.
