Huawei SmartLogger - PV plant controller

Edit

Huawei SmartLogger - PV plant controller

Description

  • Device class: controller for a Huawei PV plant. It monitors and limits the SUN2000 inverters that it manages.
  • Brand: Huawei
  • Name in My Devices: Huawei SmartLogger
  • Tested models: SmartLogger3000A01EU and SmartLogger3000A03EU
  • Serial number: read from the SmartLogger when you add it

LoggerV Connection

Interface Protocol Port or baud rate
Ethernet Modbus TCP 502 by default
RS485 Modbus RTU LoggerV port Bus Speed
  • Not used on installed sites: RS485
  • Modbus Slave ID: 0. The SmartLogger answers for the plant on logical address 0.
  • Modbus TCP: off on a new SmartLogger. See Setup.

Plant Control Functions

  • PV plant: an active power limit, as a percentage of Max Active Adjustment, written to the SmartLogger in each control cycle. The SmartLogger shares the limit across its inverters.
  • Limit refresh: the LoggerV writes the limit again every 10 seconds while plant control dispatches the plant. LoggerV 9.346 and earlier do not refresh the limit. Use a later release.
  • Start and stop: plant control sends Power On to start the inverters and Power Off to stop them.
  • Reported to plant control: the total rated inverter capacity, the total energy, the active and reactive power, and the running state (stopped when Plant Status is Outage or Communication interrupt)
  • Not commanded: reactive power, power factor

Set Active power control mode on the SmartLogger to Remote communication scheduling, with Schedule strategy not set to Disable. With Schedule strategy at Disable, the SmartLogger runs the inverters at full load and ignores the limit from the LoggerV.

Recorded Data

Field Unit
Input power kW
Active power kW
Reactive power kvar
DC current A
DC current 2 A
Total energy (E-Total) kWh
  • Live only: daily energy, power factor, phase currents, line voltages, plant status, the scheduling values
  • DC current 2: recorded, but not shown on the device page
  • Sample period: one period for the full device

Wiring

The Add-Device wizard makes the connection diagrams; see How to add a device in myPower24.

  • LoggerV interface: Ethernet
  • SmartLogger port: the WAN port or the LAN port, as the site network needs
  • Factory address of the WAN port: 192.168.0.10, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1
  • Factory address of the LAN port: 192.168.8.10, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.8.1
  • SmartLogger web interface: user name admin, initial password Changeme. The SmartLogger asks you to change the password at the first login.

Setup

  1. Connect the network cable as the generated diagram shows.
  2. On the SmartLogger web interface, open Settings > Comm. Param. > Management System.
  3. In the Modbus TCP settings, set Link setting to Enable(Unlimited), or to Enable(Limited) with the LoggerV IP address as a client IP address. Click Submit.
  4. Open Monitoring > Inverter/PCS > Running Param. > Power Adjustment. Make sure that Remote power schedule is Enable.
  5. Set Active power control mode to Remote communication scheduling. Keep Schedule strategy at Strategy 1, the default.
  6. Add the device on the LoggerV; see How to add a device in myPower24.
  7. Type the IP address of the SmartLogger in IP Address:.
  8. Type 502 in TCP Port:.
  9. Type 0 in Modbus Slave ID:.
  10. Click Try to connect.
  11. Open Advanced Data. Make sure that Max Active Adjustment and Total Rated Inverter Capacity show values.
  12. Open Actual Data. Make sure that Active Power and E-Total show values.

Device Page

  • Info: General Info, Time Info, Public Device Info
  • Actual Data: Power Data, Energy Data
  • Advanced Data: Phase Currents, Line Voltages, Limits and Status, Scheduling Status, Plant / Capacity Info, Alarm Registers
  • Basic Settings: Control (ON or OFF for the inverters) and Power (active power limit in %)
  • Plant Status: Unlimited power operation, Limited power operation, Idle, Outage or Communication interrupt
  • Healthy link: Plant Status shows Unlimited power operation or Limited power operation, and Active Power changes with the sun

Control OFF stops every inverter that the SmartLogger manages. Set Control to ON to start them again.

Troubleshooting

  • "Failed to scan ID (Device did not respond to all register groups)": the SmartLogger did not reply to a read. Examine the IP address, the TCP port and the Modbus Slave ID. Make sure that Modbus TCP is on, and that the LoggerV IP address is allowed in Enable(Limited).
  • The scan succeeds, but the SmartLogger does not show in the device list: some SmartLogger firmware returns zeros for the serial number. LoggerV 9.327 and later read the serial number in a separate request. Update the LoggerV.
  • Plant control has no effect: Max Active Adjustment is zero, or Active power control mode is not Remote communication scheduling. The LoggerV does not send a limit while Max Active Adjustment is zero.
  • Inverters stay at a low limit overnight: the SmartLogger fell back to its fallback limit because the limit was not refreshed. Update the LoggerV to a release after 9.346.

Permissions

  • See the device page and the recorded data: any access level
  • Change settings, and use Control ON or OFF: Editor, Installer or Full control
  • With Viewer only: the device page shows View-only on this site.
  • About the levels: see Access levels field definitions

No setting of this device needs the advanced device capability.

Tips and Gotchas

  • Manual limit and plant control: plant control writes its limit to the same register as Power on Basic Settings. Plant control replaces a manual value at its next cycle.
  • Shutdown upon communication exceptions: off by default on the SmartLogger. When on, the SmartLogger stops the inverters after the detection time without commands. The LoggerV refreshes the limit every 10 seconds, so set the detection time well above 10 seconds.
  • Units: this device records power in kW and energy in kWh, not W and Wh.
