Build a rule list
Scope
A rule list sets one value of a connection point. The first true rule from the top wins, and the Default applies when no rule is true. For each field, see What a rule condition can read field definitions. See also How plant control works.
Location
- Path: the plant control, Diagram tab, the diagram menu, Edit, then double-click the point.
- Rule lists: tabs of the Settings dialog, for example Target Power or Max Limit.
Permissions
- See the rule lists: all access levels. A Viewer double-clicks a device on the diagram and sees its rule lists without the Save button.
- Change and save the rule lists:
Editor,InstallerorFull control.
Step 1: Default
- Open the tab of the rule list.
- In the Default row, click the pencil icon.
- Type the Value, in watts on a power list.
- On Target Power, type the Grid/Storage Priority.
- Click Save in the rule dialog.
Set the Default to the usual value of the point. The plant control skips an invalid rule, so the Default must be safe.
Step 2: Rules
- Click Add.
- In the new row, click the pencil icon.
- Under What it does, set the Value.
- Under When it applies, set a minimum of one time filter or an Expression.
- Read the summary line at the top of the dialog.
- Click Save in the rule dialog.
Make two rules for a window that includes midnight. Also make two rules for a window that includes the start of a new year. A single rule with From after To applies only from To to From, at the opposite times. Make one rule to 23:59 and one rule from 00:00, or one rule to 31 December and one rule from 1 January.
Step 3: Rule Order
- Drag each rule above the rules that it overrides.
A rule that is true all the time belongs in the Default.
Step 4: Save
Examine all rules before you click Save. Save sends all the rule lists of the point with no confirmation, and the next control cycle uses them.
- At the bottom of the Settings dialog, click Save.
- Make sure that Save Success shows.
Troubleshooting
- Invalid Value. or Invalid priority.: the box is empty or does not hold a number.
- Invalid Logic Expression: Every condition needs both sides selected: select a reading on each side of the row.
- Invalid Logic Expression: Expression with FIXED field has invalid value: type a number in each Fixed Value box.
- Invalid Period Selection. Please select at least 1 filter.: set a filter or an expression, or put the value in the Default.
- Invalid Year Period!: the date is not a calendar date, for example 31 February.
- Not saved: followed by rule n has no filter: open that rule and save it, or delete it.
- Save Error: followed by the logger reply: send a screenshot to support.
- A red row: the rule reads a device or a variable that the plant no longer has. Change the rule or delete it.
- A rule does not win: a rule above it is true first. On Target Power, On/Off State, Max Limit and Min Limit, the row that wins is green.
Tips and Gotchas
- Max Limit and Min Limit take a number only, with no priority.
- The grid Max Limit and Min Limit cap the grid power that a storage target causes. See Shave a demand peak.
- The plant control keeps charge and discharge in the BMS current limits. See Battery protection settings field definitions.
- For a start threshold and a different stop threshold, see Stop rules from causing power fluctuations.
- The Recent Changes tab shows the last 10 saves. There is no undo. Thus, record a value before you change it.
