Sungrow SCUD - battery power conversion system
Description
- Device class: a 3-phase battery power conversion system (PCS) for high-voltage battery systems
- Power flow: between the battery and the grid, in the two directions
- Brand: Sungrow
- Name in My Devices: Sungrow SCUD
- Name in the Add Device wizard: SCUD Series, in the Sungrow group
- Models that the LoggerV finds: SC1000UD, SC1200UD, SC1375UD, SC1575UD, SC1725UD
- Models that the LoggerV does not find: SC2000UD and SC2500UD. The scan stops with an invalid model message.
- Identification: the LoggerV reads the serial number and the model from the PCS. You do not type a serial number.
- AC output at 45 °C: SC1200UD 1200 kVA, SC1375UD 1375 kVA, SC1575UD 1575 kVA, SC1725UD 1725 kVA
- Nominal AC voltage: SC1200UD 480 V, SC1375UD 550 V, SC1575UD 630 V, SC1725UD 690 V
- DC side: 1 input, 1500 V maximum, 1935 A maximum. The minimum DC voltage is different for each model.
LoggerV Connection
| Interface | Protocol | Port or baud rate |
|---|---|---|
| Ethernet | Modbus TCP | 502 by default |
| RS485 | Modbus RTU | LoggerV port Bus Speed |
- Not used on installed sites: RS485. The LoggerV uses Modbus TCP only.
- PCS default Ethernet address: 192.168.13.127 on port ETH2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- Modbus address: 1 by default. You do not change it.
Plant Control Functions
- Battery converter: active power only. The LoggerV writes the setpoint to On-Grid Constant Power AC, in 0.1 % steps of the rated power.
- Rated power: the LoggerV reads it from the PCS nominal output power
- Start: if the PCS is in Standby and plant control asks for power, the LoggerV sends Start
- Standby at 0 W: only when On-Grid Charge/Discharge Mode is Constant Voltage. In the other modes, a 0 W request sets the setpoint to 0 %.
- Stopped PCS: while the PCS is in the stop state or in a fault, the LoggerV sets the setpoint to 0 %. Thus the PCS does not start again at a previous setpoint. The LoggerV does not send Start to a stopped PCS.
- Grid available: from the PCS Grid Status. In off-grid mode and VSG mode, plant control sees no grid.
- Local mode: while Remote/Local is Local, the PCS ignores all LoggerV commands. The only setting that the LoggerV can change is Remote/Local.
- Not available: reactive power, frequency response, and the heartbeat watchdog
Set On-Grid Charge/Discharge Mode to Constant Ac Power. The LoggerV setpoint has an effect only in this mode.
Recorded Data
| Field | Unit |
|---|---|
| Active Power | W |
| Reactive Power | var |
| Grid Voltage 1-2, 2-3, 3-1 | V |
| Phase 1, 2, 3 Current | A |
| Grid Frequency | Hz |
| Ambient Temperature | °C |
| Module 1, 2, 3 Temperature | °C |
| Work State | state code |
- Work State: the platform records the state as a number. The device page shows the state name.
- DC values, energy counters and branch currents: on the device page only. The platform does not record them.
Wiring
The Add-Device wizard makes the connection diagrams. See How to add a device in myPower24.
- LoggerV to PCS: an Ethernet cable from the LoggerV Ethernet port, or the site network switch, to port ETH2 of the PCS
- Communication ports: on the terminal block in the cabinet door, to the right of the control panel
- PCS web page: connect a PC to the ETH2 port, set the PC to 192.168.13.X, and open 192.168.13.127
- Web page password: pw1111, for the O&M user
Setup
- Connect the cable as the diagram from the wizard shows.
- On the PCS web page, open System > Port Parameter > Ethernet. Set an IP address on the LoggerV network.
- Add the device on the LoggerV. See How to add a device in myPower24. Select SCUD Series in the Sungrow group, then Ethernet. Type the IP address, port 502 and Modbus address 1.
- Open Basic Settings > Control. If Remote/Local is Local, set it to Remote or Remote & Local. In Local, the PCS ignores all other settings and plant control.
- Set On-Grid Charge/Discharge Mode to Constant Ac Power.
- Make sure that Heartbeat timeout interval is 0.
- Add the PCS to plant control. See Add and connect devices in plant control.
- Open Live Data. Make sure that Work State shows Running or Standby, and Grid Status shows Connected.
Do not set Heartbeat timeout interval above 0. The LoggerV does not send a heartbeat, and the PCS stops when the interval ends.
Battery Communication
The battery BMS connects to the PCS on RS485. The LoggerV does not use this link.
| Signal | Battery RJ45 (RS485) | PCS screw connector XB9 |
|---|---|---|
| RS485 A- | Pin 7 or pin 5 | Terminal 10 |
| RS485 B+ | Pin 8 or pin 4 | Terminal 24 |
| Ground | Not connected | Not connected |
- PCS port: RS485 #5 on connector XB9
- Battery: HV SS7000 series
- RS485 cable: 2-core twisted shielded pair. Connect the shield to ground at one point only. This point is usually not in the PCS.
- BMS link loss: BMS communicatio n exception switch and BMS communicatio n exception time on the device page set what the PCS does when the BMS link stops

Troubleshooting
LoggerV Messages
- "Model read at REG 3249:1 has invalid value read: …": the model is not one that the LoggerV finds, for example SC2000UD or SC2500UD
- "Serial read at REG 3203 - 16byte long has len les than 3 char read: …": the PCS sent no serial number. Examine the Modbus address and the cable.
Alerts
The alert text is the fault or alarm name from the PCS. For the full list, see section 13.2 of the Sungrow user manual.
- "DC undervoltage" or "DC overvoltage": examine the battery voltage and the DC protection settings. Above 1650 V, the input switch locks. De-energize the PCS to unlock it.
- "AC undervoltage", "AC overvoltage", "AC underfrequency" or "AC overfrequency": measure the grid. Examine Protection Levels and the AC cable.
- "Islanding protection": examine the grid supply, the AC cable and the AC circuit breaker
- "Module overtemperature", "Reactor overtemperature", "Transformer overtemperature" or "Ambient temperature abnormal": examine the ventilation and the fans. Keep the PCS out of direct sunlight.
- "Fan 1 fault", "Fan 2 fault", "Fan 1 abnormal" or "Fan 2 abnormal": de-energize the PCS. Remove dirt from the fan. Replace a damaged fan.
- "Leakage current protection": examine the battery area for water and the DC and AC cables. The default limit is 5 A.

- "Battery polarity reversed": correct the DC cable polarity
- "Overload protection": make sure that the output does not go above 1.15 times the rated power
- "Parallel communication error" or "Carrier sync fault": examine the cables between the parallel units
- "AC switch fault", "Soft start fault", "Drive board fault" or "Neutral point potential shift": restart the PCS. If the fault stays, contact Sungrow.
- "AC main contactor abnormal" or "AC switch abnormal": restart the PCS. If the alarm stays, contact Sungrow.
- "DC overcurrent" or "AC overcurrent": the PCS clears the fault itself. If the fault occurs again, contact Sungrow.
- "Heartbeat Stop": set Heartbeat timeout interval to 0
- "Local Emergency Stop" or "Remote Emergency Stop": find the cause, then release the emergency stop
