Winline Charger Cluster - battery charger

Edit

Winline Charger Cluster - battery charger

Description

  • Device class: a group of Winline UXR 40 kW DC charging modules on one CAN bus, controlled as one battery charger
  • Brand: Winline
  • Name in My Devices: Winline Charger Cluster
  • Name in the Add Device wizard: Charger Cluster, under Winline
  • Module models: UXR100040 and UXR100040B
  • Module output: 100 Vdc to 1000 Vdc, 0 A to 133.3 A, 40 kW
  • Module AC input, UXR100040: 3 phase and PE, 285 Vac to 475 Vac
  • Module AC input, UXR100040B: 3 phase and PE, 260 Vac to 530 Vac
  • Cluster: one cluster for each LoggerV CAN port, with all the modules on that port
  • Module names: UXR_ followed by the port and the module address, for example UXR_c1_0 for address 0 on CAN-1
  • Battery: the charge limits come from a Solar MD Li-ion H8 Series high-voltage battery cluster; see Battery Communication

LoggerV Connection

Interface Protocol Port or baud rate
CAN Winline UXR CAN protocol 125 kbps
  • No address in the wizard: CAN, the modules announce themselves
  • LoggerV hardware: 2.12, 2.13 and 2.20

Plant Control Functions

  • Charger fed from AC: charge power only. A discharge request sets the charge power to 0 W.
  • Power to current: the LoggerV divides the setpoint by the output voltage and shares the current equally over the online modules
  • Current ramp: up by Cluster Step Current at each Cluster Step Delay. A decrease is applied in one step. A Cluster Step Current of 0 switches off the ramp.
  • Off at 0 W: the modules stay on at 0 A for Power Off Hold, then switch off. Power Off Hold is 15000 ms by default, 0 to 600000 ms.
  • Not implemented: start and stop mode commands, frequency response, reactive power

The LoggerV obeys plant control only while Plant Control Enabled is set to Enable.

While Plant Control Enabled is set to Enable, the LoggerV does not apply the battery charge limits. Plant control alone sets the charge power.

Wiring

The Add-Device wizard makes the connection diagrams; see How to add a device in myPower24.

Signal LoggerV RJ45 (CAN-1 or CAN-2) Module adapter plate (J1 or J2)
CAN High Pin 4 Right pin
CAN Low Pin 5 Left pin
Ground Pin 2 Not connected

RJ45 pins 4 and 5 to the module adapter plate J2, with the J7 jumper on pins 1 and 2

Module rear view: AC input L1, L2, L3, PE, DC output + + - -, and the CAN High and CAN Low pins

  • AC input connector: 1 L3, 2 L2, 3 L1, 4 PE
  • DC output connector: 1 and 2 DC+, 3 and 4 DC-, 5 CAN High, 6 CAN Low
  • Bus shape: one line from module to module, not a star
  • Termination: 120 Ω at the first and the last device. With the power off, CAN High to CAN Low is 60 Ω.
  • LoggerV termination: built-in 120 Ω resistor with an ON/OFF switch
  • Module termination: jumper J7. Pins 1 and 2 connect the resistor. Pins 2 and 3 disconnect it.

Setup

  1. Connect the cable as the generated diagram shows.
  2. Set the LoggerV resistor to ON. Put the J7 jumper on pins 1 and 2 on the last module only.
  3. Set the module address with the front panel buttons. Hold ▲ or ▼ for 2.5 seconds, change the value, then hold for 2.5 seconds to save.
  4. Set the address of the first module on the CAN line from the LoggerV to 0.
  5. Set each next module to the next address: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, a, b, c, d, e, f. Do not skip an address.
  6. Add the device on the LoggerV; see How to add a device in myPower24. Select Charger Cluster under Winline, then the CAN port.
  7. Open Cluster Control > Operational Settings. Set Cluster Max Voltage Setpoint, from 200 to 1000 V.
  8. Set Cluster Voltage Setpoint, not more than Cluster Max Voltage Setpoint.
  9. Set Cluster On/Off to Enable.
  10. Open Cluster Data. Make sure that Online Units is the number of modules and Offline Units is 0.

The module address is hexadecimal. Address a is the 11th module and address f is the 16th module. Two modules must not have the same address.

Battery Communication

The LoggerV limits the chargers with the charge control values of a Solar MD Li-ion H8 Series battery cluster on the same LoggerV.

  • Setting: Cluster Control > Advanced Settings > Battery Controlled, Enable by default
  • Battery Cluster ID: the Cluster ID on the H8 device page, 1 by default
  • Limits: the cluster current and voltage do not go above the battery charge control values
  • No battery cluster or no battery online: the cluster charges at 0 A and shows an alert
  • Status: Cluster Data > Charge Control Status

Set Battery Cluster ID before you switch the cluster on. A wrong ID stops the charge or applies the limits of a different battery.

Device Page

  • Device Info: serial number, rated power, manufacturer, rated current
  • Cluster Data: on/off, ramp, control mode, Online Units, Offline Units, actual and target values, charge control
  • Module Data: one tab for each module, with its alerts, status, temperatures, DC and AC values. Red is a fault, orange a warning, blue information.
  • Cluster Config: Working Altitude, Max Voltage Setpoint, Over Voltage Reset, Over Voltage Protection, SC Reset, Input Mode, data recording
  • Cluster Control: cluster on/off, voltage, power and current setpoints, current stepping, Plant Control Enabled, battery control
  • Healthy link: Online Units is the number of modules, Offline Units is 0, and each module tab shows Connected
  • Offline Units: includes each removed module. The LoggerV remembers each module that it found.

Maintenance

  1. Open the AC input breaker of the module.
  2. Remove the two front panel screws.
  3. Pull the module out by its handle.
  4. Set the new module to the address of the old module.
  5. Push the new module fully into the slot and install the two screws.
  6. Close the AC input breaker.
  7. Make sure that the module tab on Module Data shows Connected.

Open the AC breaker before you remove a module. The module housing can be hot after operation.

Troubleshooting

Front Panel Error Codes

Read the model on the module label first. The two models use the same codes for different faults.

Fault UXR100040 UXR100040B
AC voltage or phase loss E03 E01
Overtemperature E02 E04, E08
Output over voltage E06 E02
Output short circuit E05 E05
Fan fault E08 E06
Address conflict E07 E10
Output under voltage E01 none
Current sharing E09 none
Module damaged none E03, E07, E09
  • AC voltage or phase loss: measure the AC input. Examine the cables.
  • Overtemperature: clean the air inlet and outlet. Examine the cabinet fans.
  • Output over voltage: examine the voltage setpoint. Remove and install the module to reset it.
  • Output short circuit: find and repair the short circuit between DC+ and DC-.
  • Fan fault: examine the fan cable. If the fault stays, send the module to Winline.
  • Address conflict: set a different address on each module.
  • Output under voltage: the module starts again after 5 seconds. Examine the load.
  • Current sharing: examine the DC output connection to the load.
  • Module damaged: send the module to Winline.
